8 Steps to get your QLD motorcycle licence...
The Q-Ride Pre-learner course is the first of three training and assessment courses developed by Department of Transport and Main Roads.
QLD motorcycle learner licence applicants are required to successfully complete this course to be eligible to apply.
After successfully completing the Q-Ride Pre-learner course, learner licence applicants are required to complete and pass the Motorcycle Knowledge Test.
The test is 30 questions and is accessed and completed via your TMR online account (small fee payable).
So you have your restricted learner licence (RE-L)! Now you need to learn to ride on the road and get lots of riding experience.
RE-L riders can only ride a LAMS motorbike and must have an L plate clearly displayed and MUST be supervised by an appropriately licenced rider.
Before enrolling in your next Q-Ride course and upgrading your licence, you will need to complete the online Hazard Perception Test via your TMR online account (small fee payable).
This test can be completed anytime throughout your learner period (91 days).
Once you have reached your 91 days as an RE-L licence holder and have successfully completed the Hazard Perception Test you will be able to enrol in the Q-Ride RE course.
Riders are required to successfully complete this course to be eligible to upgrade to a restricted open licence.
Once you have successfully completed the Q-Ride RE course you will be able to upgrade to your restricted open licence (RE-O).
You will now be able to ride unaccompanied and no longer need an L plate, however you can still only ride a LAMS motorbike.
When upgrading to an unrestricted open licence (R) you will be required to successfully complete the Q-Ride R course.
This course is delivered on an R class motorcycle and can only be completed by eligible riders who have had their RE-O licence for at least 2 years.
So you have completed the Q-Ride R course and got your R class licence.
Now it's time to get some road riding experience with an R class bike and enjoy the feeling of freedom and excitement.
